Our Take

harlan + holden is a rare thing: a Filipino brand that set out not to compete with European luxury, but to reframe what luxury means entirely. When time becomes the ultimate currency, a pull-on dress in certified recycled poly stops being modest and starts being radical.

10 Minutes Back, Every Morning

Emmanuel Pineda grew up inside Philippine retail royalty. His grandmother, Gliceria Tantoco, founded Rustan's — the country's preeminent luxury department store. His mother co-founded Adora, the specialty concept store that introduced Manila to Diptyque, RIMOWA, and Chloé. Surrounded by the world's best brands since childhood, Pineda came to an unusual conclusion: he didn't want to sell someone else's vision. He wanted to build one.

In 2015, he launched harlan + holden in Manila with a single animating idea — that clothing should save people time, not consume it. The brand became known for its one-step dressing philosophy: pull-on silhouettes in easy-care fabrics, no zippers or buttons required, pieces that move seamlessly from morning to night without thought. Mia San Agustin, who had studied fashion in Milan with exposure to Gucci, Prada, and Ferragamo, joined within the first year and became the other half of the brand's creative identity.

By 2020, the brand had grown to 20 tier-one retail locations across South Korea, Indonesia, and the Philippines, and had attracted one of the most celebrated names in European fashion: Alessandra Facchinetti — former creative director at Gucci, Valentino, Miu Miu, and Tod’s — agreed to join as the brand’s first Creative Director. The Seoul flagship, designed by David Chipperfield Associates, opened that same year: a 2,260-square-foot space clad in grooved terracotta panels, conceived as a meditative retreat.

Today, harlan + holden ships to 58 countries and operates alongside its Because Coffee restaurants and The Glasshouse café. Every garment is made from Oeko-Tex certified materials, GRS certified recycled polyester, or BCI certified organic cotton. Swimwear is made from ECONYL regenerated nylon sourced from ocean waste.

Why We Featured Them

What Makes harlan + holden Different

01

Royalty With a Reason

Founder Eman Pineda could have ridden the Rustan’s-Adora legacy indefinitely. Instead he built something new: a globally distributed brand rooted in a single, democratic idea that great clothes should give you time back, not demand more of it.

02

World-Class Architecture, Filipino Soul

When harlan + holden opened its Seoul flagship in 2020, it commissioned David Chipperfield Associates — the firm behind some of the world’s most celebrated museum spaces — to design a terracotta-clad retreat that embodies the brand’s ethos of stillness and clarity.

03

Sustainability Without the Sermon

Every fabric is Oeko-Tex certified. Swimwear is made from ECONYL regenerated nylon sourced from ocean waste. Factories are BSCI audited. harlan + holden bakes ethics into its supply chain quietly and structurally, not as a marketing campaign.
